The Sting Soccer Club has agreed to join the newly announced Dallas Franchise for the Women’s Professional Soccer Team. The new combined entity is the Sting Soccer Group. Dallas is one of the groups representing franchises in seven major U.S. cities that have signed letters of intent to become charter members of the Women’s Soccer Initiative, Inc.’s effort to launch a new professional women’s soccer league in 2010.
From womensprosoccer.com:
The Dallas area has a strong women’s soccer history and has developed several high profile players including Carla Overbeck and Tracey Leone, both members of the 1991 Women’s World Cup championship team. Overbeck went on to captain the U.S. Women’s National Team to victories at the 1996 Olympics and 1999 Women’s World Cup.
Pending the securing of a stadium, Women's Professional Soccer intends to have a team in Dallas in 2010.
